Over the weekend, we were craving for some classic hong Kong desserts (糖水). First place I thought of was 100% healthy desserts. After Googling for a while, I realized it closed and changed their name to Sweetie Pink Dessert.
I didn’t think it was a big deal, looked the same to me, but boy was I wrong. It was too packed so we got take out. I ordered one of my favorites, pear with fungus and aloe vera. It was the biggest rip off I’ve ever had.
Excited with my purchase, I open my bowl, to see that it was only half full. The take out bowl was one of the smallest size too, about the size of those regular chinese bowls you use for dinner.
There were only small dices of pears and one piece of fungus, and a scoop of aloe vera. Thinking the pears would be soft, it was still crunchy. Thinking the fungus would be smooth, it was still hard. Thinking the soup would be sweet, it was tasteless, with a subtle hint of tartness from the pears. The only thing that was okay was the aloe vera, but that obviously was prepackaged. All that for 6$ with tax?!! Biggest rip off ever! It was so disappointing, that I didn’t even want to take a picture with my phone.
It tasted like it was only made less than an hour ago. It wasn’t ready to be served. And guess what? This is actually a very simple item, and they charge an arm and a leg for it.
Not to mention, it wasn’t piping hot either, it was just barely warm, and the drive home was less than 5 mins. I had to microwave it to make it hot.
The service was bad too, rude servers and not friendly at all. The person who was taking our order didn’t seem like she was willing to help us with the menu, since the pictures didn’t have the item’s name on it. I get it, it was busy, but at least a smile would be nice. She looked like she was annoyed with us because we were taking too long.
I looked at other things on the menu, I saw they had Macau pudding (木糠布甸), I think it was priced at around $4-5 for one. Again, rip off, because it’s fairly easy and simple to make. Its just layers of biscuits and cream. Of course they had their twist on it, but still relatively easy to make, and in big batches too.
Not sure if they just changed names, or they’ve changed owners. But definitely, when it was still called 100% healthy desserts, that was the best place to go to.
Would I go back again? Definitely not. I’ll be looking for a new place, heard there is a better one a few blocks away.
Would I recommend anyone to try this place? Definitely not.
